PTT (Poste, Télégraphe et Téléphone): a suit of unikernels for SMTP protocols
2024-10-01Setting up a mailing list can be complex and costly. It is generally preferable to entrust this service to third-party agents. However, email and identities through addresses are the most critical element for a company, as they remain the main channel of communication. Our solution offers these companies the ability to run this service in-house, because we believe that the risk is too great to be handled by a third party.
As part of our ambition to win back the means of communication, email is crucial. Our aim is to build and deploy a mailing list service that is less costly in terms of resources. We want to develop our service in the form of unikernels using MirageOS. The interoperability of protocols will enable us to draw on knowledge already acquired in the industry in order to integrate our service into existing infrastructures.
About security, we will use the properties of unikernels to our advantage. These will be virtualised (avoiding contagion via auxiliary channels) and will use the minimum stack required for the deployment of a mailing list. Virtualisation allows critical processes, such as email signing, to be separated from other processes, such as spam filtering.
From 2024 until 2026 we received funding through NGI Zero Core, a fund established by NLnet with financial support from the European Commission's Next Generation Internet program. The amount is 50_000€.
